Spider Vein Treatment (Sclerotherapy)

If you sometimes avoid showing your legs because you have spider veins – small clusters of red, blue or purple veins most commonly seen on the thighs, calves and ankles - there is help. Dr. Moore treats spider veins with sclerotherapy, a technique in which veins are injected with a sclerosing solution causing them to collapse and fade.

Though improvement is noticed within a month of the first treatment, most patients require 2 or more treatments to achieve desired results. Patients can expect to receive one injection for every inch of spider vein treated. Sclerotherapy requires no anesthesia and has a minimal recovery time, usually a couple of days to return to daily activities. Exercising and heavy lifting may be restricted for a longer period of time. Bruising around the injection sites generally fades within a month. While treatments are effective, they do not prevent new spider veins from occurring.

Most patients are very pleased with the results…typically, skin appears clearer and more healthy-looking.
