Procedure
• Surgical procedure preformed under general anesthesia.
• Dr. Moore uses a vertical technique when possible to reduce
the number of scars; using this technique, an incision is made around
the areola down to the crease under the breast; a short incision
in the crease may be required.
• Excess tissue and skin is removed, breasts are reshaped
to a pleasing contour.
• The nipple is repositioned upward during the procedure.
Who is a candidate?
• Women with large, heavy breasts that cause poor posture,
back pain and/or bra strap indentations.
• Women with a breast size that is out of proportion to their
body size causing physical discomfort and/or poor self-image and
self-consciousness.
Intended Results
• Smaller, more comfortable sized breasts.
• More pleasing breast shape and contour.
• Better self-esteem.
Recuperation
• Permanent scars at incision points. Scars are still visible
but fade over a period of several months to a year or more.
• Patients may experience temporary loss of nipple sensation;
pre-surgical sensation levels return in most patients after 6 –
8 weeks. Some patients experience permanent partial sensation; a
minority of patients experience permanent loss of sensation.
• Breasts are bruised and swollen for several weeks following
surgery.
• Oral pain medication is prescribed for initial discomfort
• Your breasts will be wrapped in a surgical dressing and
you will wear a special compression bra around the clock during
healing. The bra minimizes breast movement while the tissue and
skin is healing.
• Light activities as tolerated; exercise six – eight
weeks after surgery.
